What is disruptive mood dysregulation disorder?
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) is a pediatric mood disorder characterized by chronic and severe persistent irritability and severe anger outbursts. The DMDD diagnosis was newly introduced to the DSM-5 to replace pediatric bipolar disorder, which was a controversial diagnosis leading to over-diagnosis and over-treatment with antipsychotics. The prevalence of DMDD is 2-5%.

How is DMDD treated?
There are no medications approved for treating DMDD.
