What is pyromania?
Pyromania is a disorder characterized by multiple episodes of deliberate and purposeful fire-setting associated with tension or affective arousal. Its prevalence is unknown, and only roughly 3% of repeat fire-setters in the criminal system qualify for a diagnosis of pyromania. Pyromania is more common in men than in women.
